Food and Drink

You are here: Home / Resources / Food and Drink

How often has the taste and smell of food transported you back in time? Why not give your guests the perfect meal to remind them of you or a special event in your life?

Perhaps you have always loved a perfect steak, or fish and chips? Nothing may be better for you than a warming homemade soup and buttered rolls, or perhaps chocolate profiteroles will forever be top of your list.

ProfiterolesWith your guidance, friends and relatives can share their memories of you over a personal meal. Whether your funeral plan involves a brief crematorium visit or a full-scale Life Celebration, there will be a time when your guests will need sustenance. Many will have travelled far and it is traditional to host some kind of snack or meal for them after the formalities.

But this need not be a sombre affair. Much as the traditional wedding cake has given way to the couple’s favourite dessert, there is no reason why you should be confined to traditional wake fare. Sandwiches are safe and simple, but you can still choose your favourite fillings or have them served on vintage china. With a little thought your ‘party’ food can leave a truly lasting impression.

Tea

And don’t forget the drink! A hot cup of tea will go down a treat on a cold day, but your guests may welcome the chance to toast you with some bubbles (it need not be real champagne). Obviously the choice of drink is another area where you can make your mark: I know people whose tipple of choice is virtually their trademark, and this seems the perfect time to offer guest a little of the same.

About

It's hard to talk about death. Even when she was terminally ill in a care home at 94, my grandmother refused to discuss whether she wished to be buried or cremated, and would not hear of anyone …

We'd love to hear your ideas for funerals and life celebrations.
