A Cornish man left a ‘ bundle of rags’ by his Egyptologist father, has found that the bundle is a 2,000 year old Egyptian mummified cat worth £2,000.
An X-ray of Robert Gray’s inherited treasure shows a perfectly preserved cat, probably interred as a companion for the afterlife.
The bundle had lain dustily in Mr. Gray’s attic for years, but turns out to have been a gift from a museum. Experts at the Royal Cornwall Museum have now verified the find, which they describe as “very exciting”.
