From peaceful lilies to cheery tulips. Character flowers for funerals.
Traditional floral wreaths can be a symbolic way of saying goodbye to a loved one, but as the gift of flowers in life can communicate so much, there is scope for funeral flowers to be much more expressive.
Ivory or white floral tributes convey purity and peace. Pink can be softening and pretty for girls, whilst arrangements based on a favourite colour can instantly awaken memories of the deceased in livelier times.
Wreaths spelling out a name or in a special shape, such as a train or heart, can be effective, but so too can a potted plant. A basket provides a natural container that is easy to place and move, and even jam jars can be effective with a sweet posy. Take your style from the life you wish to reflect and the choices may become simpler.
Consider, too, the meaning of flowers and other plants. For example, the herb rosemary is known ‘for remembrance’ and can add to both the scent and meaning of any floral display.
