Gerry Anderson’s funeral earlier this month demonstrated how easy it is to bring character to a crematorium funeral, despite some feeling that these can be cold and charmless affairs.
Anderson, the creator of Captain Scarlet, Joe 90 and Stingray, arrived at his funeral in a coffin topped with a huge floral arrangement in the shape ot Thunderbird 2, whilst a giant floral tribute spelled out his familiar sign-off FAB.
Joining the spirit of the occasion a fan attended the funeral in his replica pink Rolls Royce, as used by Thunderbirds’ Lady Penelope. The car remained outside during the service, which made use of the shows’ theme tunes in addition Gerry’s other favourite music.
No-one was left in any doubt who’s funeral this was, nor of the legacy of fun he left to posterity. In many ways, the perfect funeral.
