…lies the body of world famous dancer, Rudolph Nureyev, who died of AIDS aged 54 in 1993.
The oriental-inspired ‘rug’ is in fact a sumptuous mosaic, designed and built for Nureyev by set designer Ezio Frigerio to reflect his passion as a collector of beautiful carpets and antique textiles.
By all accounts the texture and colours are phenomenal in reality: well worth a visit to the Russian Orthodox cemetery of St. Genevieve-des-Bois in the suburbs of Paris, where ex- New Yorker Richard Nahem will be happy to show you around.
